Figure 1. Factors affecting Recruitment & Selection

Defining the recruitment and selection process in HRM, the selection part of the process includes screening interviewing, shortlisting and selecting the best person for the job. Each part of the process is drastically different. Recruitment attempts to get a large pool of candidates to apply for the job, so you have sufficient number of applicants to choose from, but selection aims to sift through this pool to find one person who is the best fit from all the applicants. (Jill Harness, 2019).

The factors affecting recruitment and selection are organized into the internal and the external categories.

The Internal Factors

  • Size of the Organization : To develop business, recruitment planning is mandatory for hiring more resources, which will be crucial in the management of future operations.
  • Recruitment Policy : It identifies the objectives of recruitment and provides a framework for the implementation of recruitment programs
  • Image of the Organizations : Positive image in the market can easily attract competent and proficient resources.
  • Image of Jobs : Jobs having a positive image in terms of better remuneration, promotions, recognition, amiable working environment and career development opportunities.

The External Factors

  • Demographic Factors : The characteristics of potential employees such as, their age, religion, educational qualifications, gender, occupation, economic status, and place of location.
  • Labor Market : Labor market exercises control on the demand and supply of labor.
  • Unemployment Rate : If the unemployment rate is high in a specific area, hiring of human resources will be simple and manageable. In contrast, if the unemployment rate is low, then recruiting tends to be difficult due to lesser number of resources.
  • Labor Laws : Labor laws reflect the social and political environment of the market, which are created by the central and the state governments.
  • Legal considerations : These considerations, passed by government, will have a positive or negative impact.
  • Competitors : When organizations are competing for the best qualified resources, there is a need to analyze and make finest provision.
  • Equal Opportunity : it is vital to consider equal employment opportunities for the individuals. All the applicants are treated on an equal basis and consistently at every stage of recruitment.

(Radhika Kapur, 2018).

Conclusion: It is utmost important to ensure that the above factors are adhered while recruiting. Right Person for right job at tight time is very important for success of an organization. A wrong recruitment can cause adverse effects to the overall performance of the Organization.
